How to compress an image

  1. Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image from your device.
  2. Set the output format, quality, and maximum pixel size.
  3. Press Compress image and compare the original with the result.
  4. Download the compressed image when the size looks right.

Private by default

This image compressor uses browser features instead of a server upload. That keeps the workflow fast for simple photos and avoids sending personal images to ON-TOOL.

Best settings

For photos, JPEG or WebP at 70-85% quality usually gives a good size reduction. For screenshots or graphics with transparency, try PNG or WebP and compare the result before downloading.

Browser limits

Very large images can use a lot of memory on phones or older laptops. If compression fails, try a smaller photo or choose a lower maximum width and height. The tool will not enlarge images beyond their original pixel size.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. The image is processed locally in your browser with Canvas APIs. ON-TOOL does not upload or store the image.

Which formats are supported?

The first version supports JPEG, PNG, and WebP images. HEIC, RAW, and PDF files are not supported.

Why did my PNG become a JPEG?

Choose the output format before compressing. JPEG is usually smaller for photos, while PNG is better when you need transparency.

Will compression always make the file smaller?

Usually, but not always. Some images are already optimized, and PNG output can be larger than JPEG or WebP for photos.
